| Automated External Defibrillator |
Two Automated External Defibrillation options are available when using the
MEDIC FIRST AID® Basic, Version 5.0 program and its AED Supplement. The first is a Public Access
Defibrillation (PAD) option meeting minimum state requirements for AED use in non-OSHA regulated
settings. The second is the MEDIC FIRST AID® Basic with AED option meeting U.S. National Guidelines
for First Aid Training in Occupational Settings and providing compliance with minimum OSHA regulations.
Both options meet the laws of most states for layperson use of an AED.
Use of these programs may be subject to additional requirements. Performance Evaluations and a Written
Knowledge Review are included within the AED supplement to use when required by states or agencies.
The AED supplement follows the pattern of the Basic program by using video segments, Instructor demonstrations,
Small Group Practices, and Talk-Through Scenarios. The MEDIC FIRST AID® Basic AED Supplement covers:
- Integrating the Use of an AED
- Basic AED Operation
- Bare, Prepare, and Place Pads
- Troubleshooting Messages
- Other Considerations.
The AED Supplement has a generic video featuring AEDs from leading manufacturers. Device-specific videos are also available:
HEARTSTREAM from Agilent Technologies featuring the HEARTSTREAM FR2 AED. The video scenario shows a casino.s emergency response team assisting a
patron. The video uses screen and voice messages from the AED to familiarize students with operation of an FR2.
Medtronic PHYSIO-CONTROL featuring the LIFEPAK 500 AED. The video scenario shows an emergency response team assisting a coworker in an on-the-job setting.
Actual voice and screen messages give a realistic look at LIFEPAK 500 operation.
